Staring Into The Singularity If computing power doubles every two years,
what happens when computers are doing the research?

moreinfo Considering 'presence' as the sense of 'being connected' or 'in touch' with other people, we realise that 'presence' information (knowing about the existence, availability, activity, and location of others) has become a key issue in the connected and wireless world. The concept has expanded from an initial online/offline description and has grown in richness

In "The Law of Accelearting Returns" Kurzweil is talking about a scenario in which post Singularity scientists (technologically enhanced) are inventing the next generation of themselves, which is destined to be Exponentially more developed than them. With regards to the advancement in biotechnology and specifically in cloning and gene improvement, I can assume the next generation is bred in an exponentially growing pace and that it is also immortal. If I'm not mistaken, we are talking here about the days of the Massiah - I can only pray that our exponentially growing awareness will be sophisticated enough to create beautiful new worlds for all of the never dying creatures before thay eat themselves up to extinction.

"Singularity Studies" Links the coming technological singularity is expected to continue the present double exponential growth in computational complexity, leading very rapidly in cosmological time (100 years? A millennium?) to a universe-modelling and universe recreating system

The Law of Accelerating Returns Within a few decades, machine intelligence will surpass human intelligence, leading to The Singularity -- technological change so rapid and profound it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history. The implications include the merger of biological and nonbiological intelligence, immortal software-based humans, and ultra-high levels of intelligence that expand outward in the universe at the speed of light.

about

The world after Vernon Vinge. As I am cruising the web, I'd like to log links and cites that relate to the Technological Singularity, as described be Vernon Vinge in his "Technological Singularity" article from 1993 and developed/discussed further more by other thinking meat. I personally believe the human presence on the World Wide Web is the de facto Singularity and that the evolution of technology in the near future will be very much influenced by that Singular mass of people/minds/souls.
